Reflection Statement

Over the time of reading, watching and listening to each of my prescribed/related texts, its safe to say that my understanding of the concepts involved have evolved and I now have a much better perception of it. There are a few areas that before going through each of these texts that I didn’t completely understand or could not see beforehand, such as actually finding different aspects of discovery in texts. When choosing my texts, I found it difficult to find any that would be different to everyone else’s, the texts that I did end up choosing didn’t seem to have many aspects of discovery either but eventually I learned what to look for and how to analyse it properly. Choosing different texts to everyone else was important to ensure that there was some level of uniqueness to my website and that it stood out.

Looking and finding different discoveries was a difficult task to carry out, especially when the text does not have it as an apparent concept, though I did manage to analyse each of the texts to my satisfaction and felt as though I found most aspects of discovery in each of the related texts. The other difficulty that I had with finding aspects of discovery, was identifying what kind they were whether they were physical, self, spiritual or other. This wasn’t a real problem for long, because of the help of previous works and other people’s help with the site and the prescribed / related texts.

“Books. They are lined up on shelves or stacked on a table. There they are wrapped up in their jackets, lines of neat print on nicely bound pages. They look like such orderly, static things. Then you, the reader come along. You open the book jacket, and it can be like opening the gates to an unknown city, or opening the lid of a treasure chest. You read the first word and you're off on a journey of exploration and discovery.”
― David Almond

I found this quote whilst researching my different texts and I found it quite useful, when analysing my texts I tried to put myself in this mind set and it made seeing the story from the characters perspective much easier. It also made analysing each of the different concepts much more simple. By exploring the different concepts of discovery it makes it easier to understand how they work in different texts, some of these concepts may even change or challenge someone’s beliefs or ideas, personally the only things that these concepts changed about me is how I now find them in places I wouldn’t of been able to before.

Analysing these texts was a bit of a task for me but after getting it all started and really getting into the analysis, it became much easier and my understanding of the area of study had become much better. By exploring the area of study I have learned how these different texts have the ability to change or challenge someone’s beliefs, create new ideas and concepts and overall just have a deeper understanding of what we have been learning all bout in class. The whole puropse of this website was to inform and help others with the area of study and show different aspect and concepts of discovery throughout various texts, I feel it does just that.
